Today, at approximately 5:56pm IST, two Qassam rockets were launched from the Gaza strip and fell in Southern Israel. No injuries have been reported, however, a vacant room near a kindergarten was site of one of the rocket strikes.
Qassam rockets are improvised homemade missiles which consist of a steel tube supporting a small warhead on its nose. There are four supporting “wings” toward the engine which give control of direction.
Three known versions of the Qassam exist, and over twenty Israeli citizens have been killed since the rocket’s introduction in 2001. Over seven-thousand Qassam rockets have been launched on Israel, and attacks continue today. Not only do Qassam launches frequently endanger Israeli lives, but they are also a hazard to citizens of Gaza as a result of poor trajectory, misaim, and accidental explosions at launching sites. The terrorist political organization responsible for launching Qassam rockets is Hamas, who vow martyrdom for a free Palestinian state and the extinction of Israel and its inhabitants.
Other rockets used in such attacks also include Grad (Russian: hail) and Katyusha (Russian: Katherine) rockets, the latter typically used by Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Example of a typical Qassam launch
Example of a more threatening, rarer Grad launch
The IDF is becoming increasingly vigilant on eliminating the threat of rocket attack. Air reconnaissance, intelligence and modern countermeasures (IRON DOME) have been increasingly successful in thwarting Hamas’ attempt in waging terrorism in the skies. These maneuvers do not eliminate the rocket threat as a whole, but as the enemy becomes more desperate in failed attempt to sway a righteous strong will, we begin to see how mentally defeated and immorally indoctrinated they are.
Hopefully they realize the same as the unnecessary casualties provoked by senseless folly continue to rise…
The wicked draw the sword
and bend the bow
bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose ways are upright.
But their swords will pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.
